What you take decides how independent you are when you arrive. This is a working list for a stay of a few weeks to a few months.
Bring with you
- A folding walking stick or a light frame — most folding sticks are accepted in the cabin.
- A portable grab bar that clamps onto a basin or bath edge without tools.
- A non-slip bath mat that folds flat.
- Spare rubber tips for sticks and frames — inexpensive, and hard to find abroad.
- Any personal item you rely on every day, with enough for the whole stay.
Easier to buy there
- Shower stool or bath board — bulky, and widely available locally or online.
- Bed rail — usually cheaper to buy than to ship.
- Toilet frame or raised seat — sizes vary by country, so check local supply.
- Extra non-slip mats and a second grab bar for a second bathroom.
Two practical notes
Check the luggage allowance first. Aids are light but awkward to pack. If you are flying, measure the folded length against the cabin limit before you commit.
Order ahead. Bulky items can often be ordered online and delivered to your accommodation before you land.
Most of the smaller items above are what we sell in our shop — chosen because they travel well rather than because they belong to one fixed room.
